You can also use another instrument to find the note to be tuned to as the strings of the guitar are from the lowest E, A, D, G, B, and E. You will need to learn how to strum or pick the strings of the guitar and how to read notes and tablature. Most beginners use the pick and the first method of picking is called down picking where you press down on the string in a downward movement. Another method is called flat picking where the pick goes down then up on the string. You will be taught to utilize the fret board by pressing down on certain frets and strings to create notes and chords.

All guitar players must practice in order to become proficient at their instrument. Plan on taking about one half an hour out of your day to go over your lessons. Look for lessons on guitar on the Internet, on videos, and in books prior to employing a teacher.
